Week 1 June1-5 8:30-10:30 AM Backyard Birding
All great scientists and innovators have at least one critical thing in common. When they look at the world they do so with a sense of wonder and curiosity. You may have experienced a renewed sense of curiosity in observing the birds in your own backyard. This is a superb way to spark wonder, indeed, many renowned scientists, including Rachel Carson, James Watson, and Nashville's own Jackie Corbin, were/are avid birders. The skill of nurturing a sense of wonder is both analytical and playful and through this Summer program, campers will learn and engage in the practice of instilling wonder in their perspective of the world through citizen science. Using our backyards and local natural spaces, campers will learn what it means to be a citizen scientist, explore scientific ideas from their own backyards, learn and share their observations and ideas under the guidance of Dr. Anderson. With this camp participants will have a greater understanding of the web of life we all commune within and the intricate ways we can use our critical minds to better our world.
